Dancer, choreographer and director of Compagnia Tarantarte.
"The traditional dance reminds us who we used to be. It is a dancing, identity mass that celebrates the social bond of a people of the earth. This is what Maristella Martella, dancer and choreographer, does. But our Salentine does not only repeat the dance ritual, yet beautiful. Maristella is working on and from the tradition because she wants to tell us about what we have become. And she does it by distilling the best from the past, by saving folk authenticity and in the same time experimenting with new paths in order to do art".

Maristella Martella’s Biography
Over the years, Maristella has elaborated a personal teaching method, a unique style that characterizes her in the interpretation of dances from Southern Italy and trance rituals from Mediterranean area.
In 2001 she founded Taranta Power in Bologna, the first school entirely dedicated to the study of traditional dances from Central and Southern Italy and their contemporary interpretation. She carries out a theatrical research on the phenomenon of Tarantism from Salento and traditional dances from the Mediterranean area by taking part in various dance projects and residencies in Maghreb and participating in familiar dance and music rituals. From 2003 she has organized and participated in numerous art residencies in Tunisia, Morocco, France and Italy.
The Tarantarte dance company made its theatre debut Taràn Tarante d’Amore di Lotta di Euforia di Trance in 2011 at the Festival Oriente Occidente in Rovereto, Italy.
There is a land where dance and music make miracles.
In the heart of Salento, we rediscover an ancestral ritual, reinterpreted with choreographic work of Maristella Martella and the Tarantarte dance company. Popular tradition and contemporary research meet, accompanied by music of Officina Zoé, and bring us back into the dream of Tarantism.
